Gayle was born into the peaceful matriarchal society of the Kindom of the Isles. This society worshipped the Mother Goddess, principally in her form as Earth Mother or Gaia. Gayle was 'touched by the Goddess' and thus marked as one who was to become a priestess. When she reached womanhood, she entered training.
In the early days of her training, her homeland was attacked by the Foulspawner. Not the first of the realms the Foulspawner had grasped, he was to go onto to enslave her people, and hunt down the priestesses. However, some of the senior priestesses gave their lives that some could escape - all the novices and junior priestesses, and a few villages of the people escaped by a gate opened by their sacrifice.
Her people separated, Gayle has since roamed the realms trying to find and reunite the last remnants of her people so that they can try to free their land.
Gayle has in her travellings reached Everway, where she is known as an herb-woman and healer. She has had dealings with the Crookstaff family, and, when she is in Everway usually lodges with the Host family.
